Dave Angel & Ken Ishii

Born in Chelsea, the son of a Jazz musician, Dave Angel's first musical instrument (appropriately) was a drum at the noisy age of eight. Not one for conforming, even at the early age, Angel spent little time in school, preferring truancy to chemistry and the music room to the classroom.

1988 and the explosion of acid house in London and the rest of the country seemed to be the major break for Angel, who at the time was pioneering this unbelievable new sound on radio Phaze One. A well known pirate radio station in the capital. The technological explosion which was to rock pre conceived musical conceptions established the young DJ who found himself proclaimed as "One of the major techno talents in Britain". (Echoes March 1992).

DJing formed a natural progression into the recording process and two weeks recording at home with two basic turntables and two tape decks and a child Casio keyboard (yes a child's!!) in 1989 bore the fruits of his first musical excursion ~ a remix of The Eurhythmics "Sweet Dreams" ~ somewhat controversial but eminently successful. Angel's reworking of the track created such a massive buzz in the clubs that RCA were forced to officially release the track and incredibly it charted and climbed to No 23 in the UK National Charts first time round.

Since this initial success Dave has not lost his drive to create music which continues to be regarded as some of the bravest and influential dance music this country produces. Heavily influenced by the Detroit sound he has subsequently released singles and Ep's of astonishing quality for Polydor/Love, OuterRythum, Fnac, Island, R S , Outrage and Apollo imprints, all of which have sold well and received a barrage of critical acclaim. Dave was also solely responsible for the Classic "Sea's Of Tranquillity EP" which was hailed as a landmark release by the Techno intelligence. Notable remixes include work for such luminaries as Orbital, Sun Electric, Carl Cox, Robert Armani, Juan Atkins, Spooky, James, Fourhero, Roni Size, Underworld The list goes on and on窶ｦ窶ｦ窶ｦ

Dave Angel signed up with Island Records with the releases such as "In flight Entertainment" and "handle with Care" EPs. 1995 saw the release of Dave's debut album "Tales of the Unexpected" which was voted No 5 in the 1995 album chart.

"Angel concocted an album which will stand the test of time, a Major criticism of Techno in 1995 " "Again where Techno went wrong in 1995, Heaven certainly sent an Angel". (The Guardian newspaper 1995). Dave released further remixes of tracks from the album, 窶狼imeless' and 窶漏udiments' were club hits , the album also contained the track 窶炉ever' which whenever played set the dance floors on fire.

Dave released his second album 窶賂lobetrotting' for Island Records. Singles such as 窶魯isco' were remixed by the likes of Ian Pooley and the wax doctor. Also Tokyo Stealth Fighter and the highly successful 窶炉unk Music' which still gets into DJs boxes today.

After three long years Dave parted company with Island Records and started to concentrate more on his own Label Rotation Records with releases such as 窶露nsights' being voted single of the month (mixmag) and also his debut on Jericho Records with an EP called 窶櫓xcursions' being also voted single of the month (wax). "Dave Angel just seems to go from strength to strength" (Mixmag).

1998 also saw the release of "39 flavours of Tech Funk" a mix compilation on React Records (Mix album of the month ~ Muzik Mag) which received rave reviews from across the globe. "Dave Angel has been at the forefront of Techno for nearly a decade" (upfront Mag 98). Also being voted one of the best mix CDs of 1998. Bringing in more DJ work for the ever busy Mr Angel. This year also saw Dave being nominated for The Essential mix for the Muzik awards.

Dave went on to release another cracking EP on Rotation called 窶狼he Knockout EP' which again was voted single of the month (Mixmag July 99). "Dave's a bloody boxing Genius" (Mixmag Aug 99).

Going into 2000 and Dave releases the second in the Knockout series 窶狼he Knockout, The Rematch' going head to head with Jamie Anderson yet again the EP gets a single of the week From NME (Oct 00).

2001 saw the launch of the internet trust the dj.com which Dave as one of their artists signed an exclusive internet deal. Starting of with DA01 a mix compilation, getting rave reviews and also bringing in new fans to already respected fan base. "Pure Joy from start to finish". (Time Out) . DA02, The reworks a collection of remixes he has done over a 10 year period, ranging from his own ventures to the likes of James, Kenishi , Baz and Dj Krust / Roni Size. The saddest thing was that due to big labels we was not able to license the main remix, Sweet Dreams by the Eurhythmics which was as you know his first ever musical production. released 29th August 2002.

Following the success of DA01, Dave ventured back into the Mix cd terrain and this time produced the slamming DA03 for trust the djs.

Continuing his Rotation Imput he released the Ep titled "Ocean dwellers" which got rave reviews and his latest "Warriors EP" which was released in 2005.

2006, after numerous problems in his new studio, Dave has finally got the sound he was searching for and is now in the process of releasing numerous projects, while DJing around the world, spreading his sound.

Prolific in his writing and DJing, Dave Angel has become and surely will continue to be one of the freshest and innovative musicians on the dance music scene.

Ken Ishii

Ken debuted on a legendary Belgian techno label, R & S Records, in 1993. Then he won No.1 on the UK's NME magazine's techno chart which led him to worldwide recognition. In 1995, the highly praised album "Jelly Tones" (R & S / Sony) was released. In the following year, the video clip for the single "Extra" from the "Jelly Tones" album (directed by Koji Morimoto, the animator of the worldwide hit cartoon, "Akira") won MTV Europe's "Dance Video of the Year" award. Since then, Ken has been regarded as one of the Japanese pioneers whose creation is on a world standard.

In 1998, Ken composed and produced the official theme song for the winter Olympics which took place in Nagano, Japan and it was played in more than 70 countries around the world. Then in 2000, Ken was on the cover of "Newsweek" magazine, featured as a symbol of the Japanese new culture. Also in the same year, he composed the theme song and soundtracks for the mega hit Japanese film, "Whiteout", which led him to a nomination for Japanese Academy Awards. Then in 2002, Ken finally set up his own label, 70 Drums, and released an album 窶廡uture In Light.窶・

These days, Ken spends 2/3 of his time in Europe, Asia, North and South America and Oceania DJing and working as a true international artist. In 2004, he was awarded the best techno DJ at "Dance Music Awards" in Ibiza, Spain, proving himself to be one of the world's most talented DJs in the scene. Last year, he was in charge of the music for Japanese Government's Seto-Nippon Pavilion at World Expo, held in Aichi, Japan. In November, 2006, he released an original album "SUNRISER". He has also been continuously releasing on his side project, FLR, focusing on the dance floor.

My musical relationship with Dave Angel started in the mid '90's, the time I was singed for Belgium's R & S Records. His remixes were featured on many of my singles on the label. His craft on remixing my music always worked perfectly and I often played his remixes more than my own originals. Of course his own works are important in the history of techno as well. His new album includes a track he and I collaborated on for the first time, which gets me to have a great feeling towards our musical history so far.
